Seculalr Connexion Séculière (SCS),in co-operation with BCHA, and RMA, has begun the process of a formal complaint to the Calgary Police Commission about the Calgary Police Service’s ongoing discrimination against non-believers on the force. In spite of its own survey indicating that 53% of its members are non-believers, senior members of rhe force actively promote Christian practices and continue alliances with Christian orgnizations such as the Salvation Army.
In the past, SCS called out the Services senior officers for providng an honour guard at a Christian Prayer breakfast, and for attending as official representatives of the Service. We also called them out for using taxpayer money to build a Christian chapel in their new headuarters.
The senior officers have participated in cynical, superficial changes to behaviour. We are pushing for committed policy from the Calgary Police Service to religious neutrality.
An official complaint is being filed with the Calgary Police Commission that has, in the past, given the Service direct instructions to end the Christian bias and discrimination in its actions.
